Wealthy Affiliate Review: My real thoughts

Are you wondering if Wealthy Affiliate is another scam? I know I did.

I decided to find out for myself by spending more than 100 hours on Wealthy Affiliate’s platform.

I won’t lead you on. The Wealthy Affiliate is worth it for beginners. It’s free to start and the premium is low as a cell phone bill, unlike many of its competitor products. Read on to find out why it’s worth it.

Let’s take a step back. I know you probably come across dozens of unfulfilled promises in the world of affiliate marketing. Everyone’s on the beach, sipping their margaritas and driving their sweet lambo. However, every time you purchase a course in affiliate marketing, it never yields much success.

Let’s establish a goal when searching for a ‘good’ affiliate marketing course. Here, I’ll make it simple:

We want to make money online by selling other people’s products.

It’s often hard to get those words out of people’s mouth nowadays with political correctness looming in the air.

Great, now let’s assess how well the Wealthy Affiliate program is able to help us obtain this goal. There are some inherent obstacles that come with being an affiliate marketer. To name a few:

  • Loneliness
  • Directionless
  • Unmotivated
  • Not making a dime

So keep in mind that an affiliate marketing system / program, if done well, should help us overcome our obstacles and help us reach our ultimate goal. In particular, let’s see how well Wealthy Affiliate tries to address these issues.

Let’s start off with some basic info about what Wealthy Affiliate is and what it’s not.

Wealthy Affiliate is a training platform for affiliate marketers to connect and share resources. It’s much like Facebook in a sense that there is a community and you’re able to share your thoughts and interact with those around you.

Wealthy Affiliate is NOT a ‘get-rick-quick’ scheme. Nor is it a ‘one-and-done’ product. It by itself will NOT make you money. It’s a subscription based service that allows you to be part of a community of affiliate marketers. It’s not a course where you sit and grind for days, trying to soak in all the information thrown at you. Don’t get me wrong, there is a training series to the system but it’s nothing like anything I’ve reviewed before (In a good way).

Let’s talk about Wealthy Affiliate’s recommended funnel. More specifically, what WA recommends as a source of traffic. Generally, there are two types of traffic:

  • Paid Traffic
  • Organic Traffic

Paid Traffic is often more advertised in affiliate marketing courses not because it’s the most effective, but because it allows for faster results. Keep in mind that paid traffic has financial risks, since you have to spend money. Many marketers often end up losing money this way.

On the other hand is organic traffic. To make money by ranking organically on search engine takes time. However, it is THE most effective way to market affiliate products. Wealthy Affiliate is the only digital product that teaches both types of traffic.

In fact, Wealthy Affiliate works in these 4 simple steps:

  1. Choose an interest
  2. Build a website
  3. Attract Visitors
  4. Earn Revenue

I say simple but these require real hard work.

Now, let’s dig into some specifics about Wealthy Affiliate.

What makes Wealthy Affiliate Worth it?

Real Genuine People

Real, genuine people. That’s right. Real affiliate marketers who have made 4, 5, even 6 figures a month. These people are right there in that community for you to interact with. Just click on random high ranking profile (There is a rank system on WA) and read their profile. There is so much interaction of people helping each other. The kind of community WA provides really eases two of our obstacles (loneliness and unmotivated).

Comprehensive Training

Let’s face it, so many courses out there are vague. They don’t spell things out for you, especially when it matters. They say general things like “set goals”, “stay positive” but never actionable advice. WA is different, they have training where they tell you exactly how to succeed. The first actionable thing being ‘find a niche.’

It’s hard to systematically track your progress as an affiliate marketer. However, WA makes it work with a ranking system. There are a ton of courses and certification you can earn (even if you’re not a premium member). Some of which are Online Entrepreneur Certification and Affiliate bootcamp. These courses require step by step progress and you can’t skip ahead.

Platform, not just a course

WA is a platform where you can host your website and write content the moment you join. One of the top performers- within a week of joining- created his own website and published content on it.

There are a ton of resources to lean on: Keyword analysis tools, site rank metrics, affiliate programs, and more. It’s not just a place where you can discuss affiliate marketing but you can actually DO affiliate marketing.

Wealthy Affiliate complaints

Now, I’ve talked a lot about what I like about WA. However, nothing is perfect. Nothing is without improvements. I’m a huge critic, so let’s dive into things about WA that I don’t like.

No case studies

What’s odd is that WA doesn’t have real case studies. Here is a community of experts on affiliate marketing, yet they can’t record live case studies? It’s just a little odd. Many people posts their snippet of earnings report but there isn’t a full 0 to hero case study, outlining how you grow a niche site.

Imagine if you’re the greatest math teacher in the world. Wouldn’t you have testimonies of some of your students as they go out into the real world?

Copywriting and Content training is lacking

The heart of affiliate marketing via organic traffic is writing content. To be honest, you have to write some of the best content you’ve ever written. This content has to be better than your competitors in order to outrank them. Yet, WA doesn’t seem to have much to that end.

One of the best videos on copywriting I’ve seen came from John Crestani’s Super Affiliate System. One of the best skills to acquire as an affiliate marketer, is the ability to write. More specifically, write to persuade readers.

Can you give me detailed experiences using WA?

Absolutely.

In fact, let me do a quick walk-through from sign-up to simple things you can do on the website.

One thing that is kind of annoying is the amount of emails you get from the owners.

Wealthy Affiliate Emails after a week of signing-up

Over 10 emails and it’s only been a week. Kind of spammy but also expected. Kyle and Carson (Founders of Wealthy Affiliate) are real marketers and they know the power of email marketing.

Not a huge deal. I used my spam email account to sign-up.

Another thing they are pushy about is your profile picture. They want to see your beautiful face so they keep making it a point to upload a picture for your profile.

When I review Affiliate Course products, I usually go to the training right away. This is the ‘meat’ of the product.

There are two courses that is organized by WA. Online Entrepreneur Certification and Affiliate Bootcamp.

Online Entrepreneur Certification

Online Entrepreneur Certification on Wealthy Affiliate

There are different levels that you have to go through in order. They are:

  1. Getting Started
  2. Building Your Own Traffic Producing Website
  3. Making Money
  4. Mastering Social Engagement
  5. Achieving Maximum Success Through Content Creation

Personally, I don’t think there’s much value in having this certification. The appeal of a certification as an online entrepreneur is ironic since most of us got in this space to not follow traditional career paths.

With that being said, the course is fun to read and engaging since the text feel conversational. It helps that one of the founders (Kyle) seems to have written most of these courses.

They also do a good job of easing you into new concepts. Not surprisingly since they are an advocate of ‘get rich slowly and steadily’ not ‘get rich quick.’

Affiliate Marketing Boot Camp

Affiliate Bootcamp on Wealthy Affiliate

In terms of structured training, the affiliate marketing boot camp that WA offers is most comprehensive to get started on making money through your niche site.

I have yet to come across a course on affiliate marketing that covers aspects of SEO like keyword research.

They actually do a great job on explaining SEO. Contrary to what you might find online, SEO is not rocket science nor is it meant to be hacked. If you create valuable content for users, you will rank on relevant keywords.

They also teach one of the best affiliate marketing strategies: doing product reviews. In fact, the reason you’re reading this is because Ecomgalore does exactly that.

Now that we unboxed the Wealthy Affiliate product, let’s take a step back and answer an important question. Does it actually help make you money?

Does Wealthy Affiliate Make You Money?

This is the million dollar question (quite literally). Does Wealthy Affiliate make you money?

The answer is yes. I’ll tell you how I know.

WA comes with a community of affiliate marketers. Many of these affiliate marketers posts screenshots of their earnings.

Here’s Jerry Huang. He made over $40k in less than 4 hours:

Jerry Huang from Wealthy Affiliate posting his earnings

The proof of any affiliate marketing course is the student’s success. In that sense, WA has a lot of proof. A lot of veteran marketers are there to help you.

Now, the skeptical part of you might be thinking ‘Are these real screenshots? Are these real students or are they paid?’

It’s a good question. We’ll never know the truth but there’s a lot of public information about each member. You can even reach out to them personally. In fact, I know Jerry Huang is the real deal, just the way he writes his blog posts. He knows how to capture readers attention and give them what they want to hear.

Conclusion

If you’re just starting your journey as an affiliate marketer, you should purchase Wealthy Affiliate.

Many courses have a huge price tag and then a series of bigger price tag up sell products.

Wealthy Affiliate is different. It’s always free (with limited accessibility) and the premium is a subscription that costs as much as a cellphone bill. Compare this to your university tuition.
